On Monday March 3rd One Republic performed live at a sold out Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. Before the American band could take the stage it was time for the opening act of the evening, James Walsh, the former lead-singer of the English band Starsailor to make his appearence. One Republic played an energetic and at times mesmerizing show. The band has come a long way since their formation in 2003 and are slowly but steadily conquering the world.

James Blunt started his Moon Landing World Tour in Amsterdam at the Heineken Music Hall on Sunday March 2nd. A great start of a big tour bringing him and his band all over the world. With his beautiful singing voice and complimented by his four band mates Blunt sang all his classics and a couple of new songs from his latest album Moon Landing. At 21.00 hours the countdown began and James Blunt walked onto the stage wearing a green overall with a patch of the English flag on it. The liftoff was complete as he took the audience on a journey far into space, to the moon.

We all know the story of Beady Eye. In 2009, the never-ending fight between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher was at its boiling point, and so Oasis, one of the most influential britpop bands of the nineties, split right before their Rock en Seine performance in France. Both brothers went different ways; Noel started his own band under the name ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, while Liam formed ‘Beady Eye’ together with all other former Oasis bandmates. Since this year, former Kasabian-guitarist Jay Mehler has joined the band on bass to form a 6-piece live band. Jimmy Alter went to the Paradiso to see where Beady Eye stands now!

Last week we met up with Amsterdam based singer/songwriter Douwe Bob, who agreed to not only tell us a little about his music, but also give you a first-hand guide to Amsterdam. As he grew up in the heart of our capital city, he knows exactly what places to go, and how to make your Amsterdam experience one you will remember for a long time to come. (Or forget, if you really go all the way..)

The story began around a year ago in a small cafe when a good friend of mine told me about Sofar Sounds, a new movement of musicians and fans around the world who create unique living-room performances. As a musician myself and a hardcore music fan, I had to check it out! After a quick search I subscribed to the mailinglist, waiting for a performance to happen in Amsterdam…
